'THE KING: The Eternal Monarch' is a fantasy romance drama about the collaboration between Emperor Lee Gon of the Science-based Korean Empire, who tries to close the door between worlds against the whispers of demons, and Detective Jung Tae-eul of the Liberal Arts-based Republic of Korea, who tries to protect someone's life, people, and love, as they travel between two worlds.

Sometimes thrilling, sometimes trembling.

Lee Min-ho will play the role of Emperor Lee Gon of the Science-based Korean Empire, who tries to close the door between worlds.

Kim Go-eun will play two roles simultaneously: Detective Jung Tae-eul of the Liberal Arts-based Republic of Korea, who tries to protect someone's life, people, and love, and Luna, who lives as a criminal in the Korean Empire.

Other cast members include Jung Eun-chae, Woo Do-hwan, and Kim Kyung-nam.

'THE KING: The Eternal Monarch' is scheduled to air in the first half of 2020 on SBS.

Director Baek Sang-hoon, who worked with writer Kim Eun-sook on 'Descendants of the Sun', has joined as director.

Notably, writer Kim Eun-sook debuted on SBS with the drama 'South of the Sun' (2003) and gained recognition for her strong writing skills. She then went on to achieve consecutive successes with 'Lovers in Paris' (2004), 'Lovers in Prague' (2005), and 'Lovers' (2006), rising to the ranks of star writers.

Subsequently, she has had works like 'On Air' (2008), 'City Hall' (2009), 'Secret Garden' (2010), 'A Gentleman's Dignity' (2012), and 'The Heirs' (2013) appear on SBS every year, all achieving great popularity and earning her the nickname 'Queen of Ratings'.

An SBS official stated, "Writer Kim Eun-sook is making a spectacular return with her new work 'THE KING: The Eternal Monarch'."

He added, "As always, you can look forward to the wonderful harmony that SBS and writer Kim will create this time as well," expressing confidence.

It remains to be seen whether the collaboration between writer Kim Eun-sook and SBS will be successful again this time.

Meanwhile, 'THE KING' will begin filming in the second half of 2019 and will be broadcast in the first half of 2020.
