The original musical 'The Man Who Laughs' returns on January 9, 2020.

'The Man Who Laughs', which took 5 years to produce and involved a massive production cost of over 17.5 billion won, surpassed 100,000 cumulative audience members in the shortest period within a month of its premiere in 2018, achieving a 92% seat occupancy rate and drawing a total of 240,000 audience members by its final performance.

It also earned the title of the first production to sweep the Best Production awards at four musical award ceremonies.

Production company EMK Musical Company stated,

"We have confirmed the 2020 rerun. Director Robert Johanson

has meticulously re-examined the script, altered the sequence of scenes, and newly inserted a 'Life's Rise' song, planning to deliver a deeper impression and emotion to the audience than the premiere."

Casting is also drawing attention.

For the role of Gwynplaine, a sensual young man who works as a clown in a traveling troupe with an unforgettable smile,

singer Lee Seok-hoon, who has been active in musicals such as 'The Days' and 'Kinky Boots', and

SUPER JUNIOR's Kyuhyun, returning after 4 years since the musical 'Mozart!', have been cast.

Additionally, Park Kang-hyun, who is currently delivering passionate performances in 'Marie Antoinette', 'Excalibur', and 'Elisabeth', and EXO's Suho will be returning.

Based on Victor Hugo's novel, the musical 'The Man Who Laughs' is set in 17th-century England, a time of severe class discrimination. Through the life of Gwynplaine, who has a monstrous face but a pure heart, it criticizes a society where justice and humanity have collapsed, and delves into the dignity of human beings and the value of equality.

It is scheduled to open on January 9, 2020, at the Seoul Arts Center Opera House.
