Gaon Chart has announced the upcoming 'Weppic Awards 2021,' a new concept awards ceremony that determines chart rankings based on the songs of participating artists, in collaboration with Instagram.

Unlike traditional music awards ceremonies where artists compete against others, 'WePick Awards' is a unique awards ceremony that determines chart rankings and announces winning songs solely based on the songs of the participating artists. The chart rankings will be announced based on three criteria: 'Artist Pick TOP 5,' songs chosen by the artists themselves as particularly meaningful; 'Fan Pick TOP 5,' selected through fan voting conducted via Instagram Reels content; and 'Gaon Chart Pick TOP 5,' based on objective data compiled by Gaon Chart.

Specifically, the 'Fan Pick TOP 5' was calculated by combining the number of likes and comments on Reels uploaded to Instagram, the number of Reels created by fans using the song during the voting period, and the online voting results on the official Gaon Chart website. During the voting period, fans who participated in the Weppic Awards showed enthusiastic responses, with a total of 9,399,204 likes, 100,262 comments, and 2,717 Reels created.


Che Choi Gwang-ho, the general planner for Gaon Chart, who organized the Weppic Awards, said, "We prepared this content with Instagram to create a chart for artists, by artists, and an awards ceremony that singers and fans can truly enjoy together. We hope you watch it with enjoyment as you wrap up 2021."

The head of Meta's Music Label Partnership team said, "As evidenced by the passionate interest shown by fans during the Fan Pick TOP 5 voting period, Reels are being established as a new way for artists and fans worldwide to enjoy music together. We hope you get closer to your favorite singers by checking which songs were popular among fans and which songs artists cherished in this awards ceremony."

The 'Weppic Awards,' broadcast for five days from December 20th to 24th through the participating artists' Facebook pages, Music On Facebook, and Gaon Chart's Facebook Premiere, will feature a diverse lineup of artists. Starting with ITZY on the 20th, followed by TREASURE on the 21st, Baek A-yeon on the 22nd, Jung Yup on the 23rd, and Stray Kids on the 24th. Each artist is scheduled to reveal behind-the-scenes stories of their selected songs.
