The production of Season 2 of "Squid Game," the original Korean drama from U.S. streaming giant Netflix that caused a global sensation, has been officially confirmed.

Netflix released a message on the 13th announcing the production of Season 2 by director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who helmed "Squid Game."

Director Hwang expressed his gratitude to viewers for "Squid Game" becoming Netflix's most popular series. He added, "Gi-hun returns. The Front Man returns. It's possible that the man in the suit with the ddakji might be back too. You'll also meet Cheol-su, Young-hee's boyfriend," and conveyed the message, "We will meet again with new games and surprising stories."

Released in September last year, "Squid Game" is a work depicting a survival game in which participants risk their lives for a prize of 45.6 billion won (approximately 4.8 billion yen), and it became a global hit.

Gi-hun, played by actor Lee Jung-jae, is the protagonist and winner of the survival game in "Squid Game." The Front Man, played by Lee Byung-hun, is the person in charge of operating the game. The man in the suit is the recruiter for the survival game, played by Gong Yoo. Young-hee is a giant doll that appears in the survival game.

In an interview with U.S. media last month, Director Hwang revealed that "Squid Game" Season 2 is aiming for a release in the Halloween season of 2024.
