In the new year, stamps featuring the global idol group BTS and Pororo, a character representing Korea, will be issued.

The Korea Post under the Ministry of Science and ICT announced today its plan to issue a total of 23 types of commemorative stamps in 2023, including the BTS commemorative stamps.

Commemorative stamps are issued to honor historically significant figures, events, or meaningful occasions, with about 20 types released each year. The issuance plan for these stamps is reviewed and selected by the Stamp Issuance Deliberation Committee, which is composed of experts from various fields, including university professors.

The BTS commemorative stamps will be issued in the first half of next year under the theme of "Record of Youth." The specific stamp design will be decided in consultation with their agency, HYBE.


The commemorative stamps for Pororo, which has established itself as a representative Korean character since its first broadcast in 2003, are intended to express gratitude and celebration for the love it has received worldwide.

Other releases will include beautiful Korean language stamps to promote the importance of Hangul, as well as stamps featuring unfamiliar but beautiful vegetable flowers and honeybees, which play an important role in the ecosystem.

Additionally, stamps featuring figures such as the 100th anniversary of the martyrdom of patriot Kim Sang-ok, the 200th anniversary of the birth of Jean-Henri Fabre, and foreigners who dedicated themselves to Korean independence will also be issued. The issuance of stamps wishing for success and passing the 2023 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) is also under consideration.

Son Seung-hyun, head of the Korea Post, stated, "Stamps are more than just a means of paying postage; they are a tool to represent our country's precious culture," adding, "We will make active efforts to promote the culture that represents our country through commemorative stamps."
