KCON will meet K-Culture fans around the world, starting in Bangkok, Thailand in March, followed by Tokyo, Japan in May, and Los Angeles, USA in August.
CJ ENM announced that following the "KCON 2023 Thailand" event on March 18th and 19th at IMPACT Arena and IMPACT Exhibition Center in Bangkok, they plan to hold "KCON" at Makuhari Messe in Tokyo, Japan from May 12th to 14th, and at Crypto.com Arena and LA Convention Center in Los Angeles, USA from August 18th to 20th. Furthermore, they plan to convey the excitement of the "KCON" venue through online platforms to connect with K-POP fans worldwide.
"KCON" is a festival that combines K-POP shows with conventions where you can experience Korean-style lifestyles firsthand. Since its inception in 2012, it has showcased diverse content and played a leading role in spreading K-Culture. Offline "KCON" events held up to September 2019 attracted over 1.1 million offline attendees from Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Latin America, and beyond. During the global pandemic, the event accumulated technical expertise by connecting with audiences online five times through "KCON:TACT." In 2022, it demonstrated limitless expansion by meeting both online and offline audiences in Korea, the US, Saudi Arabia, Japan, and across the globe.
In particular, it has captured the hearts of global K-Culture fans by providing new experiences tailored to the characteristics of Generation Z in each country. Last year, "KCON 2022 LA" enriched the experience with content such as experiential conventions and workshops reflecting the tastes of North American Gen Z, who actively enjoy K-POP, while "KCON 2022 JAPAN" gained attention by showcasing outdoor conventions and pop-up stores in the heart of the city.
This year's "KCON" will kick off with "KCON 2023 Thailand." Thailand has been noted as the first Southeast Asian destination for "KCON," a representative hub for K-Culture diffusion in Southeast Asia, and a country with intense K-POP enthusiasm. "KCON 2023 Thailand" plans to prepare a wide array of programs suited to the global Gen Z and the characteristics of the Thai region. Additionally, artists such as ATEEZ, BamBam, (G)I-DLE, iKON, INI, ITZY, JO1, Kep1er, KQ Fellaz 2, MBitious, P1Harmony, TEMPEST, TNX, TO1, Youngjae (GOT7), and 8TURN will participate.
In May in Tokyo and August in LA, it is expected that not only KCON's signature shows but also content tailored to the characteristics of each region will be presented. Kim Hyun-soo, Head of Convention Live Business at CJ ENM, stated, "'KCON,' which started with 10,000 attendees in 2012 and has since established itself as the world's largest K-Culture festival, will meet global Gen Z in Thailand, Japan, and the US this year," adding, "As a platform that has always continued to evolve, we will focus on actively introducing K-POP and K-Culture again this year."
