Lee Hyun-wook and Cha Joo-young take on the challenge of a period drama.

The new tvN/TVING drama series "Won-gyeong" (written by Lee Young-mi/directed by Kim Sang-ho) depicts the fiery life journey of Queen Won-gyeong, a "kingmaker" who dreamed of a new world in the early Joseon Dynasty and made her husband, Lee Bang-won, the third king, becoming a "co-founder of royal power" who seized authority alongside him.

Lee Hyun-wook plays the role of King Taejong Lee Bang-won, the third king of Joseon. Lee Bang-won is a character entangled with an inferiority complex: a country bumpkin from the Northeast, a husband who married a woman more prominent than himself, and a king who was never acknowledged by his father.

Lee Hyun-wook, who will be playing a king in his first period drama appearance, said, "I never thought I would be able to do a period drama. I learned that even though this is a figure who has been covered in so many existing works, there is yet another new story to tell," adding, "That is why I was even more drawn to it. I will work hard to prepare and create a great project." 

The production team did not hold back their praise for Cha Joo-young and Lee Hyun-wook, stating, "Although this is their first challenge in a period drama, Cha Joo-young and Lee Hyun-wook are fully demonstrating the solid skills they have built up through various works so far," and "Above all, we highly value the fact that they perfectly understand the intention of this work, which approaches the story from a new perspective by focusing on the special marital relationship between the two characters, and that they always come prepared with acting that fits that vision." 

"Won-gyeong" will be released through tvN and TVING in 2024.
