VCHA (Lexi, Camila, Kendall, Savanna, Kaylee) will announce their arrival on the scene on Friday, January 26th at 2:00 PM with the release of their debut single "Girls of the Year" and its title track of the same name. The first single includes a total of two tracks, starting with the title track "Girls of the Year" and also featuring "XO Call Me."
The official debut song "Girls of the Year" embodies VCHA's precious dreams, strong aspirations, and high goals, as the title suggests, to "become the girls who represent this year." The credits feature a lineup of renowned writers, including Marcus Andersson, who has worked with artists like LE SSERAFIM; Lauren Aquilina, who has created hit songs while working with global girl group Little Mix, US pop star Demi Lovato, and IVE; and Chloe Latimer, who has participated in songs for various K-pop artists such as TWICE, IU, and OH MY GIRL.
The music video for the new song features cross-edited scenes of the six members gathering in a practice room to synchronize their choreography as they work toward their dreams, and scenes of them becoming global stars, stepping onto spacious stages, and appearing as the stars of fashion magazines.
Notably, VCHA performed as the opening act for TWICE's fifth world tour, with shows on February 2nd and 3rd (local time) at Foro Sol in Mexico City, Mexico; February 6th and 7th at Allianz Parque in São Paulo, Brazil; and March 16th at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, USA.
They were formed through "A2K" (America2Korea), a massive project in collaboration between K-pop representative agency JYP and Republic Records, the Billboard-selected No. 1 label in the US under Universal Music Group. The group name was personally chosen by JYP's lead producer Park Jin-young, with the meaning that "VCHA will shine a light on their fans and the world."
Prior to the release of their official debut single, VCHA released their pre-debut single "SeVit (NEW LIGHT)" and the title track "Y.O.Universe" on September 22, 2023. The day after its release, the music video for "Y.O.Universe" entered the charts in 33 regions overseas, including reaching No. 1 on YouTube's Worldwide Trending, No. 5 in the US, No. 7 in Brazil, and No. 8 in Canada. Their single "Ready for the World," released on December 1st, surpassed 200,000 streams on the global music streaming platform Spotify within five days of its release.
Recently, they were named one of the "25 Artists To Watch In 2024" by Grammy.com in the US, and their first single "Girls of the Year" was selected as one of the "22 Most Anticipated Albums of 2024" by the US magazine NYLON. With their official debut single "Girls of the Year," the new JYP girl group VCHA is signaling a full-scale start and accelerating their activities.
