On the 11th, the popular Korean girl group NewJeans attended an appointment ceremony for Honorary Ambassadors for Korea Tourism held at a hotel in Seoul, marking the start of their activities as ambassadors.
Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yu In-chon stated that while the goal for this year is to attract 20 million tourists, the current figure stands at approximately 7.65 million, and he expressed hope that the appointment of NewJeans as ambassadors will lead to even more people visiting Korea in the second half of the year.
NewJeans will launch a Korea tourism campaign targeting the younger generation, who account for one-third of all visitors to Korea.
Member Minji said, "I am truly happy to be appointed as an honorary ambassador," adding, "I am glad to take the lead in promoting the diverse charms of Korea."
Haerin suggested, "I recommend experiencing a Hanok (traditional Korean house). Experiencing the unique beauty and nature of a Hanok will be an unforgettable experience." Hanni recommended, "Since it is hot in the summer, I hope you enjoy delicious dishes like Samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) and Naengmyeon (cold noodles)."
The two advertisements released today reflect current tourism trends in Korea and were produced under the concept of "Korean's Korea: The real Korea that you can't find in a search."
The members offer advice such as visiting traditional markets to dip Gimbap in Tteokbokki sauce, enjoying cup noodles after hiking, or eating Chungmu Gimbap (a type of Gimbap originating from Tongyeong in the south) at the beach.
Additionally, through NewJeans' narration and Hangul logo designs, they introduce tourism courses such as "Choncance" (a vacation in the countryside), cafe tours, and Najeonchilgi (mother-of-pearl lacquerware) crafts.
These advertisements will be released online, including on the Korea Tourism YouTube channel "Imagine Your Korea." Furthermore, they will be displayed on electronic billboards in 12 cities, starting with Times Square in New York, followed by Tokyo, Shanghai, Bangkok, Dubai, Mexico City, and others. During the Paris Olympics, they are scheduled to be screened as short-form content on digital screens throughout Paris.
