The “61st Baeksang Arts Awards” will be held on May 5th.
The “61st Baeksang Arts Awards with GUCCI” will take place at 8:00 PM on the 5th of next month at the COEX D Hall in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
The Italian luxury brand Gucci will participate as a partner for the third consecutive year, and the event will be broadcast live simultaneously on JTBC, JTBC2, and JTBC4.
As the nation's one-and-only comprehensive arts awards ceremony, the Baeksang Arts Awards is changing the name of its TV category to the Broadcast category starting this year.
Until now, the TV category has expanded its judging scope from the three major terrestrial networks to cable, general programming, and OTT platforms.
Starting from the 59th awards, the Best Entertainment Program award included web content in its evaluation,
and the Best Male/Female Entertainer awards expanded their scope to include performers and creators of entertainment content.
The Baeksang Arts Awards, which has kept pace with the changing viewing patterns of audiences enjoying content,
has decided to change the name to the Broadcast category in accordance with these expanded judging criteria.
The commitment to prioritizing expertise and fairness remains unchanged.
To this end, a preliminary survey will be conducted with 60 expert evaluation committee members for each category to hear diverse voices from the industry before selecting the nominees for each section.
The judges for each category, commissioned based on recommendations from expert groups representing broadcasting, film, and theater,
will determine the final nominees and winners through a rigorous judging process.
The works eligible for evaluation this year are content provided via terrestrial, general programming, cable, and OTT platforms between April 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025,
as well as Korean feature films released and plays performed domestically during the same period.
However, works that were excluded last year due to overlapping with the previous judging period are classified as eligible for this year's evaluation.
For the Broadcast category, only works that have aired at least four episodes, or in the case of series, at least one-third of the total episodes by the end of the judging period, are included.
For both the Broadcast and Film categories, the criteria for Best Newcomer nominees are those who have appeared in three or fewer works in lead or supporting roles within their respective categories.
This is regardless of their debut year.
The Best New Director award in the Film category applies to directors who debuted with a feature film during the judging period.
The “GUCCI IMPACT AWARD,” now in its third year, selects and awards a work from various film genres that sheds light on social issues
and contains a message for a better future.
The Theater category follows the same judging period. It will present the Best Young Theater Award, Best Acting Award, and the Baeksang Theater Award.
The nominees for each category of the “61st Baeksang Arts Awards with GUCCI” will be available on April 7th via the official Baeksang Arts Awards website and official social media channels.
