The National Museumof Korea is set to introduce paid admission starting next year. This marks the first time in 19 years that the museum will charge an entrance fee, following its transition to free admission in 2008.
The decision comes as annual visitor numbers have recently exceeded 6 million, increasing the burden of maintaining a comfortable viewing environment and high-quality exhibitions.

The government is also considering raising admission fees at other national heritage sites, such as palaces and royal tombs, based on the user-pays principle.
Through this, it aims to secure operational funding while improving visitor experience and enhancing the quality of cultural services.

Although the exact admission fee for the National Museum of Korea is still under discussion, it is expected to range from approximately 5,000 to 10,000 KRW for adults, in line with major museums around the world.
